About Gina Cox-Roberts

When I was 14 years old, my cousin gave birth to a son. She and I are very close and I remember her talking passionately about her amazing, orgasmic birth experience. I had never heard of birth being described as anything other than difficult and painful up to this point and she ignited a spark of interest in me around natural, insitnctive birthing. This began a lifetime of interest and enthusiasm in the subject.

After many years of being passionate about birth as an outsider I discovered the role of a doula and I began working as a doula in 2005. After completing my training and becoming a recognised Doula UK doula in 2006 I gave up my job in higher education and became a doula full time. During this year, several clients chose to use Natal Hypnotherapy to help with their birth experience and I was amazed at the positive benefits they gained from it so I trained as a Natal Hypnotherapy practitioner in December 2006.

By this time, my partner and I had been trying to conceive for several years and I decided to use Natal Hypntherapy to assist us in this process. Despite being confident that hypnotherapy would be of assistance I was still pleasantly surprised when I became pregnant the very next month. Our daughter was born at home after a 27 hour natural, drug-free labour in October 2007 and having now experienced it myself I am even more inspired by the power and beauty of birth, in all its forms. Unfortunately my daughter's birth was not orgasmic, it was hard work, but being surrounded by people who had unwavering confidence in me and my ability to do it (including my cousin) got me through. I now feel even more strongly that confident, knowledgable and trustworthy support during labour can make all the difference.
